80 athletes at the start. An escape with some favorites as Contin, Swings, Francolini, Ariens, Huisman, Berga, Puela, Widmer held untill three laps before finish. A full regroup at three laps from end was the sign for the Belgians to build up a sprintmachine for Bart Swings. Bart won the sprint before Fabio Francolini and team mate Ferre Spruyt. The 13th golden medal was a fact ! Contin and Fernandez just missing the podium.
